Life Changing Makeup Tips and Tricks

We all struggle with makeup sometimes whether we are just starting out or maybe trying some new products. Finding a good long lasting foundation can take a while and learning to make a professional looking smokey eye takes practice. But what if there was a quicker way to know how to do all these things?

These following tips and tricks are specially great for beginners but they can be life changing for anyone. Maybe you’ve been using makeup for years and still wonder how to pick the right foundation for your skin type or how to apply eyeliner easily and succeed every time? What about how to make your makeup last throughout the day? Does these questions sound familiar? You don’t have to be an expert to finish with a nice long lasting look. Lets go!

Long lasting makeup

First of all you need to make sure your skin is clean and ready to go. If you suffer from dry skin you could use an overnight cream for your face and then in the morning when you wash your face finish by using a toner. That will balance out the pH of your skin and that gives a nice glow and smooth appearance for your skin.

Keep your skin hydrated. This is the key for maintaining your skin healthy and clean but it will also help you have a long lasting makeup. Remember to not only drink enough water but use a lotion or gel for your skin before applying the makeup. This will protect your skin from the makeup. If you have a dry skin like mine applying the foundation straight on your skin will only end up looking bad and dry your skin even more.

Do not apply the foundation straight away but use a water based primer and concealer to even out your skin tone and fill in pores. Because of this important step the dark spots wont become visible under your foundation throughout the day and your makeup will look smoother.

Remember to use oil-free foundation. It will stay in place better. If you are worried that your dry skin can’t handle the oil free foundation just focus more in preparing your skin first by moisturizing.

After you have your foundation on use a setting powder or/and a setting spray. This has been created to help your makeup last longer and I personally love putting on refreshing setting spray at the end! Setting powder is a great way of making all the liquid makeup products stay on place. Remember to tap the powder on instead of swiping it. That will help the makeup stay on place.

Remember not to use too much product. Create rather light layers of different products. That will most likely look better and stay on longer.

Eyeliner and mascara can easily come off so remember to use only waterproof mascara and eyeliner. Make sure you have a good cleansing water to use at the end of the day or you might have a problem getting it off.

Remember not to touch your face after you have finished your makeup look. That will definitely decrease the long lasting effect immediately.

And last but not least, keep the essentials with you because you might need to make some little corrections throughout the day. Basically you might survive through the day if you carry a lipstick and a powder with you.

Smokey eyes

When starting your eye makeup remember to use eye primer. This will help you get one step closer to that smooth smokey eye look we are after. If you’d like you can also use concealer in your eyelid as the base.

Before starting to apply your eyeshadow dip the brush in priming spray. This will give your eyeshadow a long lasting glowing look.

Use a lighter base color that you use on your whole eyelid first.

Use your eyeliner on the upper lid, near the eyelashes and blend it to create a nice dark shadow.

Remember to add a light shimmer in the inner corner of your eye.

Finding the right Foundation

Know your skin type. For oily skin you might wanna use powder foundation , oil-free liquid foundation or mineral foundation. For dry skin try liquid or stick foundation but remember that moisturizing your skin first is the key. If you have a combination skin well then you can try to mix these different type of foundations but just stay away from oil-rich foundations in all cause.

Find the right shade by testing the colors on your jawline. That is the best spot to try on and you’ll get to test the product itself at the same time.

Before you go shopping you also want to know your undertone. When you are looking at yourself without makeup does your skin look golden or rosy? If it seems to be a mixture of both you have a neutral undertone. Otherwise rose means you have a pink undertone and golden means yellow. If you are having trouble figuring this out look at your veins. Do they look blue or green? Green means warm (yellow) undertone and blue cold (pink).  After this you’ll have less trouble finding the right foundation since there are many with labels like warm-toned or cool-toned.

Eyeliner

So you want to be a professional at applying eyeliner? First of all i need to tell you that I personally found it easier using a small brush because I feel like it gives me more control. But if you have been using a specific eyeliner pencil for a while now maybe it’s better you stick with it. With a sharp eyeliner pencil it can be easier to use the tip as a stamp for your wing before you finish the rest of the line.

Whether you are using a pencil or small brush remember to keep your both eyes open when you create your wings. This will help you make them symmetrical.

If that’s not enough you can use tape or paper or playing cards as little tools to help you create symmetrical wings. Just place the tape from the corner of your eye to the end of your eyebrow. If you feel like you need to see how it’s done check this video.
